SimonIntroducing Simon Gidora from the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. It is with great honor that Simon Gidora will be representing the Sunshine Coast performing at the 2015 6th annual World Autism Festival in Vancouver. A resident of Halfmoon Bay, Simon Gidora is currently studying violin with Mary Sokol-Brown of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and chamber music under the direction of Andrew Dawes at the Vancouver simon GidoraAcademy of Music. Simon has won multiple awards at both the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival and the Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts. Simon was runner-up in the solo violin category at the Provincial Music Festival in 2014. He was also a member of the Forza String Quartet, which represented BC at Canada’s National Music Festival and went on to win first place. Simon currently plays with a piano trio.

SIROTA’S ALCHYMY – Martial Arts & Life Skills Centre has been Facilitating Personal and Community Empowerment has since 1992. We operate two Professional Centres in Vancouver and Richmond as well as conduct programs at various schools and community organizations throughout Metro Vancouver.

Pancho Juggler - Fransisco Valera**We are honored to be announcing Francisco Valeras (Pancho), international juggler and Ambassador for the Viktor Kee Foundation representing Uruguay – Pancho will be performing during both the Opening Ceremonies and AWARD Ceremonies of the 6th annual ANCA World Autism Festival as well as presenting a workshop on behalf of the Viktor Kee Foundation! 

 


curran dobbsBio: Over the past year, since receiving recognition at the 5th annual AWAF event and INAP award, Curran has been continuing his stand up career including gigs at Marchtoberfest and at the Tall Trees Music Festival and is scheduled to perform at IfCon2015. The short film he starred in had continued to show at film festivals such as the Victoria Film Festival and most notably, the Cannes Film Festival. He also had his first paid acting role in a feature length film.

Frank started singing in rock and blues bands in the late 60’s alongside many of Victoria’s finest musicians. Frank is a direct descendant of one of Victoria’s Black Pioneer families and he traces his love for the blues through his rich family history. When Frank steps on stage he gives a passionate performance that always gets people out of their seats and onto the dance floor.
  • 2015 AWARDS Ceremony and Gala Dinner 'Alexander's Bluestime Band' 2015 AWARDS Ceremony and Gala Dinner 'Alexander's Bluestime Band' Guitarist, recording artist, singer and songwriter, Whitey Somers began performing at 16 years. He has performed internationally and shared the stage with talented artists including Rick Fines, Stephen Fearing, Jeff Healy, J.P. Cormier, Kim Mitchell and The Bare Naked Ladies. Whitey’s projects include Blues, Reggae, Celtic Rock and Alternative Country. Whitey recently moved to Vancouver Island from eastern Canada and quickly established himself as a talented multi-instrumentalist, performer and session player. Whitey currently performs with The Jessica Benini Collective, Alexander’s Bluestime Band and projects include Whitey Somers Music.

A prolific live and studio musician for over 40 years, Scott has played and/or recorded with Ken Hamm, David Gogo, David Coverdale, Michael Behm, Carol Kaye, Steve Morris, Mr. Cairo, Oscar Peterson, Buddy Knox, Valdy and many more. Scott has toured with the world-renowned Platters and Inkspots for the last 13 years and has appeared on over 100 CD’s and singles and thousands of recordings during the last two decades.
  • 2015 AWARDS Ceremony and Gala Dinner 'Alexander's Bluestime Band' 2015 AWARDS Ceremony and Gala Dinner 'Alexander's Bluestime Band' Trevor Manuel started drumming at the young age of 7 and began his professional career early on as the drummer in his father’s band and High School rock bands opening for acts including Trooper and Idol Eyes. Trevor is a versatile drummer with a contemporary edge and has worked throughout Western Canada with popular country artists including Aaron Pritchett, Gord Bamford, Rachel Matkin, Damian Marshall and Rick Tippe. These high profile engagements led Trevor to be nominated for drummer of the year by the BCCMA for the last 3 consecutive years. Trevor can be heard locally performing at Vancouver Island blues festivals and popular blues venues with blues favourites (Lazy Mike and the Rockin’ Recliners, Mark Crissinger, Alexander’s Bluestime Band).
  • 2015 AWARDS Ceremony and Gala Dinner 'Alexander's Bluestime Band' 2015 AWARDS Ceremony and Gala Dinner 'Alexander's Bluestime Band' Saxman Scott Ramsay grabs audiences with his creative style and sound that’s full of soul. Scott plays tenor, alto and baritone sax. Scott began performing in rock bands in the late 70’s and moved into the blues during the 80’s. Scott co-founded The Beach Byrds (1994) and over the following years opened for acts including Long John Baldry, Powder Blues Band, Prism, Trooper, and Head Pins. Scott has played with numerous West Coast blues bands including Elmore’s Bar & Grill, Soul Shakers, Groove Kitchen, and West Coast Blues Doctors. Scott’s fun and engaging personality is a perfect fit with Alexander’s Bluestime Band and he gives a great musical performance every time he steps on stage.
  • 2015 AWARDS Ceremony and Gala Dinner 'Alexander's Bluestime Band' 2015 AWARDS Ceremony and Gala Dinner 'Alexander's Bluestime Band' Marisha Devoin is an upright and electric bass player, vocalist, composer and arranger fluent in numerous styles of music. Since graduating from Vancouver Island University’s Jazz Degree Program she has toured the world in cruise ship orchestras and lounge bands, worked steadily as a studio recording session musician including tracks on David Gogo and Sara-Jeanne Hosie albums. Marisha has performed in numerous musical theatre productions with notable companies such as Arts Club Theatre, Chemainus Theatre, Theatre K, and Patrick Street Productions. Marisha can be heard live in the Andrea Smith Band, BoodAbooM, the Hub City Rambler, jazz trios and wherever bass is needed! She looks forward to teaching more music lessons in her Nanaimo studio and developing as a music engraver and transcriber for clients worldwide.
  • 2015 AWARDS Ceremony and Gala Dinner 'Alexander's Bluestime Band' 2015 AWARDS Ceremony and Gala Dinner 'Alexander's Bluestime Band' Vince Pollitt has played trumpet for over four decades and has been a fixture on the Victoria jazz and blues scene since 1990. He spent 18 years as entertainment coordinator for the Great Canadian Beer Festival. Vince enjoys teaching a small but select group of music students and spends his off hours playing with a variety of Island bands. A devoted father and husband, Vince spends his work hours as a writer and educator in the field of wellness, aging and spirituality.
