Kelly Green: Founder of AutismHWY.com Mother, entrepreneur and advocate, artist, community organizer. (Like the first Notes For My Memoir, I will leave it to the subject to write her comments below in the comment area)
Approximately ten years ago, Kelly said this about our work, “You have created an amazing foundation upon which you are now building skyscrapers. I love what you BUILD!” At the time, I was strictly focused on ‘in the now’ of the laying of our foundation, I had no idea what was in store for us other than meeting and interacting, sharing with our community, as well as drawing from our lives (Charlie’s, mine and our son’s) because life experiences shape your future and not the other way around.
“You have created an amazing foundation upon which you are now building skyscrapers. I love what you BUILD!”
Fast forward to this ‘here and now’, I see a global community of LOVE, inspiring so many and on vast multifaceted platforms, an intricate mosaic, the essence of the fabric of a global society. Communications has been inspired to move beyond words and lectures and into the forum of interest sharing, drawing from the art of nature, the magical inspiration that it holds, and hands to us daily through hunger, thirst, physical movement, sound and rhythm of the diverse geography and climate we engage with to live. Our bodies too, IS our personal geography & climate!
Our bodies too, IS our personal geography & climate!
As for the Skyscapers, they are very high and typically out of reach for most. Metaphorically, and spiritually speaking they are at anyone’s fingertips, anyone’s dreams, anyone’s immediate thought, anyone’s creation because of the abstractness of ‘being – living in the now’. It also takes a community full of loving compassion to ‘reach for the skies’, and together as one united community, the strength of the foundation is born.
Stories are made up, then they become proclamations and the scenic narrative is conditioned for failure. The ‘damaged goods’ become commodities for obscene human trafficking….
A mother (or father) who is often scolded for her child’s innocence and unique appreciation for life, is also demonized and berated for a multitude of made up sins, conditioned by the masses in all forms of our global cultural societies. Stories are made up, then they become proclamations and the scenic narrative is conditioned for failure. The ‘damaged goods’ become commodities for obscene human trafficking for those ‘others’ (equally demonized) to be employed and to get benefits within their employment. The natural steady growth for a stable foundation gets shuttered, fragmented, bullied and shattered. Hopes and dreams are responded to by infrastructures that are unfitting for even our pets and then those corrals or pathways for human existence are justified. People swallow their gulps of shock (creating personal illnesses), sell their souls and try to navigate life in a marginalized and broken manner. It doesn’t have to be this way. And, through the course of building a strong foundation towards ‘reaching for the skies’ in Kelly’s analogy or metaphor of skyscrapers – depending on which perspective you choose to draw, the RELEASE or SURRENDER of the pungent fear starts to take precedence.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
Your fight is not with those who criticize or berate. Your fight is with yourself, internally. How you manifest the outer world experience is how you will deliver your inner world in support of raising your autistic child, your child with unique communication gifts, your child who may require science in support of how his/her biochemistry and or physiological systems function, your child who is light speeds ahead intellectually, your child who gently stands, lies or sits in wonder at the world she/he is absorbing.
The world stands still, it is we who allow it to mobilize, in whichever direction we wish to take it.
The world stands still, it is we who allow it to mobilize, in whichever direction we wish to take it. The God given gifts we are enlightened with is the ‘tool box’ from which we may draw and create. Kelly, has demonstrated this in our ANCA journey with her over the years. We and hundreds if not thousands of others have been inspired, quietly observing, quietly learning, quietly releasing their own ‘tool box’ to determine in what direction they too wish to mobilize their unique world within the context of the Universe.
Life experiences = Life IS an experience.
The art of window dressing, is to tell a story to the passers by. To catch their attention through color, animated art specific to the product or service for sale. It engages, creates interaction and conversations with the store owner, other passers by, and the patronage of the specific store. Kelly has a wonderful diverse group of shop owners from restaurants, to book stores, pharmacies and the entire cross selection you might find on a high street in any community or local strip mall. Her window dressing art as I like to call it, takes me back decades into what would be perceived as the ‘old fashioned way’, whimsical and yet direct. A single mother, an entrepreneur who found a way to not only engage with her community but to also engage her son with her community by taking him along by her side, attending those artful jobs. Life experiences = Life IS an experience.
Living to work rather than working to live.
The AutismHWY.com Chalk Art Festival is an extension of Kelly’s personal God given tool box. A means to earn an income whilst contributing to society and expanding beyond. Living to work rather than working to live. This is the story of so many in our lives, who inspire others and who in turn become inspired to create and to make mobile the world that is truly all of our skyscrapers at our fingertips, toe tips, head tips and most of all our Heart Tips, which pulsate and enable us through the breath of life to capture the essence of life God gladly handed to us with our ‘toolbox’ for life.
