"When thinking about body or face painting or regular makeup application we can’t help but think about all these sensory related triggers, will this person go through the whole process of having makeup applied?. The answer is, we don’t know, but what we can do is try our best to avoid these factors who could lead to stop a makeup/facepainting application underway. In the case of adults on the spectrum, always start performing complicated areas of makeup application without mention it at first, but it’s easy to look at clues right on the spot if something need to be addressed more carefully; in the case of children, It’s imperative for this process to be done at least 60% faster than a makeup application/facepainting for children that are not on the spectrum, if the child isn’t verbal, observe for clues, avoid coarse sponges and harsh brush strokes, and if in doubt or if your efforts to complete a facial facepainting have been unsuccessful, offer to do the “facepainting” in another part of the body such as top of the hands and arms." ~ Cinthia Torres, Graduate of Blanche Macdonald Centre, and owner of Cunthia Torres Make Up Artistry
